Our Deepest Fear

Posted on April 1, 2010

Marianne Williamson in A Return To Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles talks about our potential here on the earth. Not just the potential of a few, but the potential of each and every one of us. Listen:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

This quote from Marianne Williamson gives us a great insight into who we really are and how we should think or act. We do not serve anyone by playing small. We are all larger than life when we are thinking of the other person more than ourselves. We shine our light brightest when we put others before us, still knowing who we are. Fear is often times the factor that keeps us from stepping outside our comfort zone and showing some genuine kindness to others. The moment we know who we really are that fear is gone, and we can sow the seeds of love to others where we will reap the fruits forever.

We are powerful beyond measure. We were born to be great. Our greatness comes and increases from our relationships with others. Not just the type of relationship like friends, family, or well acquainted neighbors, but also the relationships with all who you come in contact with. Do not sell yourself short. Shine! Be brilliant! Serve the world by being all you can be!

Just got this email. I have heard this before in a movie. It has been a real inspiration to me, it says a lot about us and how we see ourselves. I have never thought about the relationships we create with others and about us being great, but you seems to have connected the dots for me.
