The Family of Humanity

I had a dream last night that, for some reason, really touched me. I will attempt to tell you the dream and the Golden Rule lesson it taught me.

I was at the end of a youth sports event when I saw a young man and his father loading up in their vehicle. The boy saw a friend across the road and asked his Dad if he could say Hi. His father replied with an absolute “NO!” Then exclaimed “What would your Mother do if she found out you talked to that boy, after what his family has done to us?”

I further observed the boy across the street look towards his friend but did not venture any gesture of acknowledgement.

Now I know this was a dream, so it was not real, but in this dream I knew both boys and both families. I did not know what action had created such a disdain for each other that the boys could not be friends. After the dream my mind kept going on about this. . . . .

What was the lesson this Father and Mother were teaching those boys? Both boys! I became sad in my heart. I decided, for me, that I am going to be more aware of what I say and do that teaches my kids to learn NOT to hate, even towards those who have been set “against” us.

Teams or schools are chosen to do battle on the field but we all belong to the family of humanity. Countries and races can be different and have cultural differences, but the Human Race is the same. Friends and families can get into “feuds” over the simplest things but we all share a commonality that should over come all of these things. We belong to the same “FAMILY” and we can unite this blood with one thing, LOVE!

Live The Golden Rule Do Unto Others in your own life and in teaching those around you, especially children.

Living by the golden rule can be the hardest thing to do at times. Especially when someone so close to you does harm to you and your family. You may have had a deep connection with this person either spiritually or physically and for a moment in time been one together. This physical existence we live in was transcended for a moment, or for a while, and for that moment, regardless of how long it was, you experienced the truth that all of us are connected. In that moment you find peace, joy, happiness, clarity, and true meaning to life.

Yet now you may not feel that way and even the thought of that person causes physical discomfort in your body. Your throat or chest tightens or your shoulders become tense and ridged or perhaps your stomach begins to churn. Worst of all it is your heart that feels the pain. This physical stress in the body can restrict blood and nerve circulation causing far worse symptoms such as sickness and diseases .

No longer are you choosing to live as one and because of the stress and emotions that you feel you have deluded yourself into thinking that you are separate. This is far from the truth because even though you may choose to no longer have a relationship with that individual you are still part of each other. We all are. You are as much a part of them as they are a part of you.

The Savior taught “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;” (Matthew 5: 44). Reading this is nice, but actually doing this allows you to once again feel that peace and unity.

Regardless of the chatter that goes on in your head about doing this or not try this and see how you feel afterwards. I recently learned a very powerful tool for forgiving my enemies through prayer. This comes from an ancient Hawaiian healing practice called Ho’oponopono. Practicing this has given me more insight into the Lords words and has brought an abundance of peace and joy into my life.

I would love to share with you how to do it if you’d like.

Best Wishes to you and your family.
